So, this is my Inspirational Challenge #40. I won't give much more than this pic, so work with it.
What comes into your mind when you look at this pic and read the text? What do you think?
How did Joyce meet him?
Does Buffy like him?
What Buffy thinks about all those guys with swords?
Does she feel the 'Buzz' from Immortals? Or does she even get any tingling when she meet Immortals? Anything at all?
TIP: This is a BTVS (post-movie) / Highlander crossover

Considering I have seen all of three episodes of Highlander, I guess I will give this idea a shot...
Joyce meets Duncan through work and Buffy, still rather irked that her parents have confirmed the divorce. When Joyce announces she's seeing someone, Buffy is inclined to hate anyone new in their lives. But... they both sense something different in each other when they meet for the first time, and Buffy takes to violently disliking him.
However, she's not without her destiny and when she receives word that there's a demon underground, she decides to take it on, vampires or not. There she meets her mother's new beau and realize that they're hiding something from each other... and she finds herself in the world of the Immortals.
Buffy confesses why she does not like him, which basically chalks it down to her father walking out. She does not like the idea of someone replacing her father, but if Duncan really likes Joyce, she'd be willing to see her mother happy.
Since Buffy would be young at this point (I think 15 to 16), relationships with her are a bad idea. Then, Joyce finally gets a job transfer to Sunnydale and in the most difficult decision of her life, she leaves the new relationship behind, if you want to follow canon. Or, if you do not, things could progress to a point where Buffy can even accept an Immortal in their lives.
Once again, just an idea.

I think Buffy would just kind of hate him because of her age, and her 'problems.' But I don't think she would resent him, but her dad. I never liked Hank anyways. The difference in Immortals, I believe, would be felt by her. Maybe she could tell the age difference because of the size or length of the tingy feeling?
When Joyce moves them to Sunnydale, I would think it would follow cannon. So, would Buffy's own death at the hands of the Master make her Immortal? I think acceptance should be somewhat easy for her, but the problem for her would be about The Game.
Does her mom find out somehow? Or does she already know about Immortals? Would she freak about vampires and stuff? What do the scoobies think of it? How will Buffy and Angel's own relationship fare?
Since I am a BA person, I would think it would strengthen, knowing that they would be able to be together without growing old, and no children. Does Buffy's special status as a Slayer/Immortal allow her children, and what about magic?
Would her mom's boy-toy come to town to continue thier relationship ever? Maybe he comes to, with Giles, help her through? Does Giles know about the 'other' Watchers?

Okay, guys, you made my head hurt
All of your ideas and questions created wayyyy to many new ideas for me - now my head is buzzing and new ideas are whirling around there.
I love both of your ideas, but let me give some new questions/ideas for you. (I'm sooo evil...)
OK, maybe Buffy hates Duncan because he just replaced her own father. And no, I don't think Duncan can act fatherly with her, it's more like buddy-buddy acting. So, can he get through her hate?
Let's forget Sunnydale for while, and think about what could happen in Seacouver. Does she meet Adam (Methos) there? Can she 'identify' that he is older than he tries to be? Let's think about Buffy's 'slaydar' (that tingly feeling), could she know how old the Immortals are when she meets them?
So, how she comes along with Methos? Maybe he thinks she is annoying, too perky and full of questions, and tries to stay away from her. But you know Buffy, she's kinda hard to get rid of...
This fic could be two part story: the first part would tell about her life in Seacouver, and the second part about her life in Sunnydale (if she moves there...)

Darn it... now I get more ideas. I am only human! is hilarious... my goodness. So is for that matter. Anyway... I would assume that Buffy would have some tingle from the Immortals. I think the more she knows, the stronger it gets. She senses something different about Duncan, and when she discovers what he really is, she picks up more on it. If she's walking past one or she's nearby one, she can sense it, but if she's looking for something, she senses it more. As for Methos, can you imagine her being the perky thing he doesn't need? It would be far too entertaining to see her irritating the heck out of Methos than actually bonding with him. She only senses his age when she feels something deeper. Duncan can work through the hate. Heck, he stopped Cassandra from killing Adam, right? If he lets her into his world a little, I think she would be able to give. I cannot see him acting fatherly with anyone, really. But maybe what she needs in this new world is a friend who has a nice supply of sharp, pointy weapons. Not to mention that his Watcher could be useful for an up-and-coming Slayer. I just had this perfect dialogue thought for Buffy cornering Adam, too. It would be something along the lines of her coming to him and saying that she knows how it feels to have something so old inside you that you can't even remember how it all began or what life was like before it. Buffy understands a lot. She really, really does.

It's is really funny even when you think about Buffy's first meeting with Methos.
Think about how Methos tries to stay away from her, and then she is even more determined to 'torture' the old man.
Don't think about them, don't think... DARN! Now I'm thinking all those situations they could get... So many ways to humialiate Methos... I bet it would look really funny for those who watch them... Methos trying to run away from her... ;D

... like the annoying kid sister he never had!
Oh, right, I would be one of those.
Anyway, it would be great amusement, especially if her relationship with Duncan is titchy at the moment.
Of course, she can always be tortured back by actually becoming immortal, and she could whine about him "cheating".

But... but... I like your ideas!
I am so drugged right now it is ridiculous. Just reading through this thread made me cackle and now I am getting odd looks. Oh, well.
I actually do like your idea (or question asking) about how Joyce copes with the thought she is dating someone who will never die. Or, maybe instead of Buffy becoming immortal, Duncan senses something funny about Joyce - a prelude to her cancer, perhaps - and offers her the greatest gift of all, one that may cause her to run to Sunnydale.

Okay, this fic could have like two parts. Other part is all about Joyce and Duncan, and their blossoming relationship. And of course how Joyce handles Duncan's Immortality, and how Duncan handles if he gets some clues about Joyce's coming illness.
The other part could be circling around Buffy and Methos, and their 'friendship'. I still like the idea that Buffy is trying to 'torture' the old man with her perky attitude and everlasting questions.

Idea: Buffy could always become Immortal or something, and they could 'torture' one another with things, like with her perky attitude, and her mother's boy toy's own. They could always bond over Joyce's illness, and settle account when she gets better or dies. Make sense? Thier common ground can be found over thier dangerous worlds, and Joyce. They could band together with teh scoobies (Angel/Buffy included) and various good highlanders or other immortals to stop some kind of big bad or something.
