So, this is my Inspirational Challenge #80. I won't give much more than this pic, so work with it.
What comes into your mind when you look at this pic and read the text? What do you think?
What's the timeline?
How do they know each other?
Why haven't they seen each other for years?
Why does she need his help now?
TIP: This is a BTVS / Smallville crossover

Ooh, look, the possibility of more smut! Or some smut. Any smut? I do not know.
To me, this seems like a perfect opportunity for her to have met Lex at some time at Hemry, and then it goes on from there.
BUT... what if Lionel Luthor is someone in a position of power? He could be one of the funding resources of the Watcher's Council. And, perhaps after Buffy quits once she goes off to college, she goes to Luthor Inc to demand they stop paying into the Watcher's Council. It could even be the summer before she starts college. She meets Lex, who is a character in himself, and they have one of those brief summer romance things. Or, rather, he uses his fortune to charm her. She's still in moping mode when Angel leaves her and lets herself be "swept off her feet". However, when the summer ends, she's got to go back to UC-Sunnydale and she leaves him behind. They have a rather nasty breakup.
So, now, post Season 7, she and the others are creating a new Watcher's Council. Realizing that the Luthors' paid a huge chunk of money, she goes back. She doesn't really want to deal with Lex, but he's going through a really bad time right now. Since she has shown maturity in learning to cope with how others feel, she actually sits him down and talks to him. She starts to see why she fell for him in the first place and then she even admits to him the reason why she left him was because he was only the rebound guy, something she didn't admit to even when he said that he was.
There are more thoughts in my head about this. But, I wanted something a little more unique. Hence... this was borne.

Aly, your idea doesn't sound bad, not at all... Does Buffy's friends know anything about Lex? Did she tell them what happened between Lex and her? (whatever it was that happened between them) Smut is always good.

I don't think that she should tell the others or they should know, but that;s just me. Maybe they were together when she was at Hemery and then he found her on the streets in LA after killing Angel. Whether they had a fling or not is up to you.
Maybe he knows all about the things that go bump at night, but one of them said something implied something that deeply offended the other, and they never really got back on track with one another. And now post S7, she needs help with building the Council or something, or maybe it's Post-Empty Places and she came to apologise or say she gets it now or soemthing...

Oh, this is definitely something she would want to keep for herself. Sundering off the Council's funds would have been bad enough. But letting her friends know of a fling? Even worse...
In any other scenario, it would be best if they were secret lovers or friends or something in between. I vote, of course, for the first option. Anyway... maybe Lex decided to come back for her, and ran into Spike, say, when Buffy was dead. Realizing that his one chance was up, Lex left but not before learning that there are such things in the world as vampires, demons, etc.
Of course, Buffy is alive and back on her feet, eventually. It would likely scare the hell out of Lex if they ever came face-to-face again. Or else Spike would get a hell of a lot of fun out of teasing Buffy. Either way, both parties would have some explaining to do. Buffy would have to explain how she miraculously came back (Lex could have seen her grave or something and KNEW it was her inside of it) and he would have to explain himself and why he acted the way he had back in Smallville.
