So, this is my Inspirational Challenge #55. I won't give much more than this pic, so work with it.
What comes into your mind when you look at this pic and read the text? What do you think?
Why is he obsessed about the painting?
Why does he feel happy and loved when he has the painting?
Is the painting really 'alive'? What is the story behind it?
TIP: This is a BTVS AU fic

Maybe the painting is a self-portrait of how Buffy sees herself. Or maybe the painting is a magical device that has imprisoned her inside until... until what?

Think about those magical paintings in Harry Potter. Maybe Buffy is somehow trapped inside the painting: she can see everything around her, she can even move a little bit - but no one notices these movements. Sometimes you can even be sure that she looks at you and winks or blinks, but you assure yourself that you're just seeing things.
But, Angel is another matter. He knows there is something about the picture. He can stare at it for hours, and just marvel at painting's colors or Buffy's face.
Can he see her move? Can he sense her cries of help? [/color]

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Like she was trapped in there for some reason. Maybe it's her consciousness in the painting when she is really laying in a hospital in a coma or something somewhere.
Spending a lot of time with Angel through the painting screen, maybe she develops abilities, like being able to walk into subconciousness of others, or being ablt to move out of the painting in a ghostly sense...

What was that episode that the little kid was walking around while everyone was living their nightmares and the real child was in the hospital in a coma? That would work if her consciousness has been sealed inside a painting and she is lying braindead elsewhere.
This would be a beautiful kidficlet as well. I can just see a child asking why the woman in the painting is crying, and the child (or children) being scared to death that the painting is haunted.

I think you're talking about 1st season's 'Nightmares'. Right?
If she is crying sometimes, what would make her sad? Hmmm... What would make her happy? What does she think about Angel?

Maybe she is sad becuz she can't get out or do anything. Maybe children and innocents are attracted to the painting, like they feel safe around her. She feels like a cross, maybe-do you know what I mean?
When Angel was a child, maybe he met Buffy as a little girl and was possibly friends with her, and got the painting for a reason he isn't aware of, having forgotten or repressed her memory.

That's sort of on the lines of what I was thinking. Maybe children confess things to her portrait, believing it to have the power to relieve their fears or heal their sickness. Maybe she does have that power. Maybe she cries because she has seen how truly horrible the world is outside of her safe, happy painting and there's not a damned thing she can do about it.

Yeah, that's along the lines I was going for. The children come by becuz they feel safer and protected around her. She cries becuz she can't physically help and she hears all this bad stuff.
I think Angel would maybe have at least a small past with her or a realyl big one that he has repressed and now cannot remember. All he knows is the woman in the pic is familiar, and he is kinda follin for a pic... *snickers*

Oh! I just had a thought! Maybe the wooden hanger htingy around it (I forgot what it's called) is the original one and it has something on it, an inscroption on it possibly, or maybe a bunch of shapes and pictures, that also intruige him. Maybe the "Ooooh" thing is that they are obvious but no one can understand the significance. Maybe it is buried in his own consciounce, another reason he may be alarmed and drawn to the portrait of Buffy. (His once-friend maybe?)

Maybe the frame has instructions on how to release her as well... something really simple in some strange language (demon or something).

Or maybe it's in thier spoken language. It's just a cryptic something that you need to be young to understand like... "Beneath my feet lies an anvil, and above them lies the clouds. Beneath the trees lie the way to set me free..." yada yada yada.
