So, this is my Inspirational Challenge #42. I won't give much more than this pic, so work with it.
What comes into your mind when you look at this pic and read the text? What do you think?
So how she handles her new gift? Will she go mad, or can she get through this?
How her friends handle this?
Is there any 'cure' for this blindness?
TIP: This is a pure BTVS story
TIMELINE: Season 4

I believe Buffy can get through everything. Hell, she was only sixteen when she got through an apocalypse and a prom. She was eighteen when Angel left her and she got along fine.
I think this is set between 'Primeval' and 'Restless', right? This could be a completely new sort of 'Restless' where the Original Slayer has taken something from the current one because she current Slayer used powers she was never meant to have.
Because she no longer has her sight, she has the ability to completely home in her advanced hearing ability as well as her others. If she can hear the voices of the beyond, they may bring a whole new level of Slaying to her. Considering Giles is about to take off as it is, Buffy could turn to him and ask him to help her out. She has all of these new skills and abilities now that she no longer has her sight and she wants to know if this is what being a Slayer is all about.
Her friends are mortified in the beginning, I would think. Buffy is a blind college student living on the outside of the world, but it gives her friends the opportunity to shine as sidekicks. Willow and her magical abilities now have the ability to go places she never dreamed. Xander finally has the chance to prove he is not such a ninny. Anya can put her expertise to work...
As for healing it? How about making a little wish... something Buffy could never imagine doing, especially when the price is far too high to even begin to imagine.
Once again, that was just an idea.

And once again it was a very nice idea. ;D
There are also other open questions / possibilities too. How Riley reacts when he finds out Buffy's sudden blindness?
What about Angel? Anyone telling him about Buffy's condition?
And what about those 'ghost whispers'? What are they telling / asking? Does Buffy hear all those whispers at the time, or can she focus on one voice? If they ask her help, will she help them?
And how she feels all the evil things? If she senses demons and vampires, can she sense are they evil? (not all the demons are evils...)
And what about Spike? He is around her all the time, so does she sense him differently?

Angel eventually finds out. I would assume Willow would say something since she is the unofficial liasion to Los Angeles. I would think he would be all protective again, and that is not what Buffy needs, so she basically can give him the cold shoulder and tell him to stay away until she figures things out.
I think that she can sense stronger without her eyes. She can obviously sense Spike and when he tries to hit her, he obviously gets migraines. There really isn't a big problem there. The problem comes when she tries to sense people like Anya, who is a demon-reformed-to-play-and-act-human. So, she isn't a perfect blind Slayer yet. She has mistakes. Instead of cutting herself off from her friends again, she will depend on them more than ever. Of course, this might add stress to the Riley situation (can you believe I never thought about him?).
As for the ghost whispers, I keep thinking of that little girl from "Hush". The voices could be like that, cryptic clues of what's to come so the Slayer does not always have to see the action coming, but she has voices from the beyond helping her to sense the danger coming so that as a group they can work it out. After all, the season beyond 4 was 5 and that was what I considered the "warm fuzzy family" season, despite Riley leaving and Buffy dying.

I think that this is a really good challenge. It allows you to explore the Buffy universe without having to worry about knowing the other universe. I might do this challenge. I have a Buffy crossover up, though, that I need to finish. . How about I write the prologue and post it here, and you can tell me what you think and if I should continue on, or if it sucks and I should never show my face again.

Hey, welcome here, AcidRain! This challenge is quite interesting, if I may say. I think we have forgotten this whole damn challenge because I've done too many Inspies lately.
So, you wanna try this one? Be my guest! I'm not against it. And I bet others wanna read this one too. Right, guys?
Okay, write the prologue and send it here so we can comment if we wanna more.
You should know that this board has ridiculously low character limit when you post. If you have own webpages, it'd would be good idea to post it first there and make a link here (like I have done with the stories I have posted here - like Jill's and Juliette's stories).
But if you don't have place where to put your prologue, contact me and I'll put it on my own website. Those links are actually better because that way the actual story and the comments you get won't be mixed.
But test the character limit here first, okay?

The air fairly crackled with electricity. She could feel it going through her body, filling her up. Even hours after the fight at the Initiative, Buffy could feel the power linger. By now, her various wounds had healed. She felt...alive, for lack of a better word. The two vampires she had fought had never stood a chance. Somehow, when the Scoobies had joined with her soul, the power had stayed.
She felt stronger, faster. Refreshed. Lately, it had all been weighing down on her. College, slaying, Riley wanting her to be something she wasn't. Buffy sighed as her thoughts centered on her boyfriedn. Honestly, did he just expect her to be weaker for him? She was who she was, and if Riley couldn't love her as the Slayer and as Buffy Summers, then something was wrong.
"Very wrong," she muttered.
Just for once, she wished she could find someone to see her as herself and to accept who she was. She didn't wish for anyone normal because she didn't want anyone normal. She wanted someone to look at her and see the Slayer and see Buffy Summers at the same time. Either both or nothing at all. She would need to speak with Riley soon and see where they stood.
Lost in thought, she was started when she heard it. A whisper. Whipping around, Buffy looked behind her but didn't see anything. Shrugging it off as her imagination, she continued on. And heard it again. This time it seemed to come from her left. Squinting into the darkness, she still didn't see anything.
"Hello?" She called. "Come out, come out wherever you are." Buffy reached into her coat pocket and pulled out a stake.
Again a whisper. She could now make out a part of what was being said.
"Help me...you have to...save...heaven...home." The whisper was all around her, finally in her head. That's when she knew something was wrong. Frantically spinning around, Buffy gasped at the sudden pain in her head. It was getting worse and worse until she finally collapsed on the ground, holding her head and whimpering. Then everything went quiet.
Opening her eyes, all she saw was darkness. It was as if someone had turned out all the lights. Confused, Buffy waited for her eyes to adjust. When they didn't, she got worried.
"Hello?" She whispered, groping for her stake. Her hands came in contact with the smooth wood, and Buffy snatched it up. Holding it to her chest, she blinked. Still nothing.
There was a rushing noise in her ears, then she began to seperate it into voices. People were whispering.
"What do you want?" She yelled out.
The whispers got louder. She couldn't understand what they were saying to her. They got louder, and louder, and louder, and louder! Pushing her hands to her ears, Buffy Summers, the Vampire Slayer for four years, did something she had never done before. She screamed in absolute fear.
........................................................
So, what do you think so far? Should I continue? Don't worry, the chapter will be longer. The story that I have up is called Bound By Loyalty and it is a BtVS/HP crossover on Fanfiction.net. I wrote it under DevilsTears. It's a Buffy/Sirius romance, so yay! Check it out if you already haven't.

It is quite a nice start. Welcome. It makes you really want to know what happens next, because this Slayer is not one to succumb to fear easily. I'll check out your other story. It will make the middle-of-the-night feeding time a lot easier, I will assure you. I would love to see you continue this one.

Yes, thank you, it was really nice start. Need more, please! ;D
If you gonna continue this one, I think we should make a new page for the story, so it will be easier to read. If the coming chapters are as long as this one, you can post the chapters right here at the board. But if they are longer, you can send them to me, and I can make webpages for them.
Just let me know what are you gonna do. You can send me private e-mails, so we can discuss about this issue more.

Well, I was wondering if I should just jump into Buffy being blind the way that I have, or if I should give her a few days to enjoy being Super-Buffy, the BAM!, hit her with the blindness. Can you imagine them in the Magic Box researching, and Buffy looking at a book in Sumarian or something, and knowing what it says? The Scoobies would be shocked. I was thinking of doing something like that, and the prologue I have up now can just be a different chapter. What do you think?
And yeah, my chapters will most definetely be longer than that, so I will send it to your email addy, CC.
Thanks a bunch Aly. I adore this website because of the challenges. ;D
Oh, I have a question. How do you get a different icons like your guys'? I really like both of them.

I think it would be interesting for her to explain this to the others and actually pick up a book to study why she is hearing things when her sight suddenly disappears. That, of course, is my opinion. I became addicted to this site easily. I have spent a fair few years as a beta-reader and have had a lot of things thrown at me... being able to submit my opinions on the ideas of others is something I like doing, which is why this board "rocks". Crystal keeps her profile avatars here -> crystalcheyenne.proboards43.com/index.cgi?board=cookies&action=display&thread=1107177179Mine were created by a friend who has way too much time on her hands. They are stored on her personal site and I believe they are her livejournal icons.

Thanks both of you! It's really nice to hear such compliments (more, please!) About my avatars: I have been so busy that I haven't had any time for those avatars. It was my intention to do more of those, not just Buffy-avatars, but others too. But yet again other things have taken my time. So, at the moment there are only a bunch of cute Buffy-avatars. Usually you just copy and store them on your own website, but if you don't have any and you wanna take one of my Buffy-avatar, let me know which one interests you and I give you the link you can use, and then put the link to your profile. And now about the fic: I also like the idea of that she can read those dusty old books before her sight disappears. Maybe she is even excited about it. I mean, she can finally help others when they research. She hasn't exactly been research girl before.

Okay, I'll rewrite the prologue and send it to you. That thought came to my mind after I posted the prologue I have up. I was thinking, 'what would the scoobies do if Buffy could suddenly read a book that looked like gibberish to them?' I think that would be great. I like the idea of her reading a book, and then suddenly she couldn't see anymore. But I also want to keep the same kind of idea I already put up. Hmm... maybe she is patrolling when she hears some demon speaking an ancient language. She gets excited because she can understand what it is saying, and she can speak back to it. After she kills it, she loses her sight.
I, personally, am not a fan of Riley. I thought that he was a dumb jerk and I was glad when he left. Anywho, I'll start working on that new prologue. Thanks for the ideas.

Maybe Buffy has bouts of being able to see things nad then being able to see nothing? Maybe she can see differently, and then only in certain times of the day, kinda like Riddick? Maybe her eyes go white when she can't see anything, and then they glow or something when seh can?
I like the prologue, adn hope you continue. Also, can you post it on FF.net too. I like your other fic by the way too-I am a BA shipper though. But I think I'll pause my inner BA shipper for a little bit to read up on it.

Yeah, I'll post it on FF.net as soon as I can get the prologue and what I want all sorted out. I'll work on it today and try to get it up over the weekend. Put me on your author alert on FF.net so that when I put it up, it'll send you an email. Or, you will actually be able to read it here because CC will put it up. I'll be putting the story up here first, since it is her challenge. Then I'll put it on FF.Net.
Anyway, I like your ideas. Maybe, instead of just hearing the voices of the different souls asking for help, she can see them if they show themselves. The Scoobies could think that she was going crazy becuase she can't see. It would put a huge strain on her relationship with Riley.
